FROM THE OZARK CHAPTER,  April 2016

Moore-Few Care Center has been having a theme meal which is coordinated through their activity department and dietary department.  The dining room is decorated accordingly.  Staff will dress the part and special music is played during the meal.  Families are invited also.  Once all residents are served staff then get their food and sit down and eat with the residents.  This has been fun not only for the residents but staff also.  Who wouldn’t enjoy a trip to Italy, lunch in the Orient, Octoberfest,, a 50’s diner, a Mexican fiesta, etc?  Denise Miller, ADC, MCAD, CDP  Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO.

 

Ash Grove Healthcare Facility in their special care unit they have been doing a read aloud group that the residents seem to really enjoy and those who do not enjoy will be set in a different place in the common area using old tackle boxes or tool boxes they have fixed up with a theme.  They have made a plumbing box, fishing box, sewing box and a kitchen gadget box.  This works well to entertain those residents that are more into rummaging.  They have a 20 bed special care unit and 68 beds for total facility and independent living apartments.  They orient all their new employees with having some time with each supervisor.  For activities portion F Tag 248 known that as a team we all are to do some portion of activities with our residents during each 24 hours.  Rebecca York, ADC MCAD  Ash Grove Healthcare, Ash Grove, MO

 

Jordan Creek Nursing Home will have a garden day where they will have the resident put together with the volunteers a flower bed with the cost of about $300.00.  They will take care of the flower bed for the summer.  Lynette Adams, ADC, MCAD, CDP Jordan Creek Nursing Home, Springfield, MO.

 

Willow Care Nursing Home Activities is looking forward to a busy may when they celebrate National Nursing Home Week.  They are planning their own State Fair for the “Small World with a Big Heart” theme, complete with fair decorations, carnival games, fair food and a party to finish the week.  Some of their special events will include a homemade ice cream social, Pie Day and a cookout with a local band to play.  Other May plans include a mother’s day garden party and some fun activities for Derby Day.  All in all they are staying busy with their wonderful residents at Willow Care in Willow Springs.  Patti Sexton, Activity Director Willow Care Nursing Home, Willow Springs, MO.

 

Magnolia Square’s upcoming National Nursing Home Week will have various festivities each day.  Farm and western day with farm animals, games and programs, music entertainment.  New group formingis Tami Harris, Lisa Thompson and Jan with Hospice, Tina with Americare-Memories in the making, a program of creative art expression for Alzheimer’s and dementia related disorders for the Springfield, greater Missouri area.  Groups will be held beginning in May at 3 different senior centers for 8 week programs.  Frequent mailings and phone calls being made to up our membership and not let the ADAM association dwendel, got to keep the word out there to get our young Activities Directors involved and be more knowledgeable.  The importance of keeping each other informaed and share ideas and knowledge to each other.  Tami Harris, Ozark Chapter President, State Member at Large ADC, MCAD, ACBC, CDP Magnolia Square, Springfield, MO.
